High blood pressure has been called “the silent killer” because it does not often cause symptoms. Some people can tell when their blood pressure is elevated and some people get a headache when their blood pressure is elevated. However, more often than not the high blood pressure develops slowly overtime and does not cause symptoms at all. In fact when patients with long-term hypertension are treated with medications to lower their blood pressure they feel fatigued and lightheaded. These people have gotten used to elevated pressure and get symptomatic when their blood pressure normalizes.

Someone with high blood pressure, even very high blood pressure, can feel perfectly fine. The problem is that all the organs of the body are subjected to high pressure and this can damage the organs. Most people understand that high blood pressure can damage blood vessels and lead to a stroke or heart attack. However most people do not realize that kidneys are particularly prone to damage with long term high blood pressure. When the kidneys are damaged they are unable to efficiently eliminate wastes from the body. Another important job of the kidneys is to make sure that important proteins do not get eliminated from the body. The kidneys also make sure that the electrolytes such as sodium and potassium remain in balanced concentration so that the body can function properly. In order for the human body to survive the pH (measurement of acid or base) of the body fluid has to be kept at a precise level. The kidneys are also responsible for making sure that your blood does not become too acidic or too basic. Long-term hypertension can damage the kidneys and cause many problems with body functions.

Blood pressure control is extremely important for long-term good health. It is important to regularly have your blood pressure checked even if you feel well. The goal is to avoid complications caused by long-term elevated blood pressure.

High blood pressure or hypertension is the elevated pressure of the flow of blood in the blood stream. This disease can cause a fatality if the person lets things go unnoticed or unmanaged. There are several early signs of high blood pressure that are actually not noticeable enough to be attributed to hypertension. These early signs of high blood pressure are quite common ailments that can be caused by any number of things which may not even b connected to having high blood pressure.

The Role Of Genetics

A person’s genes are probably one of the early signs of high blood pressure that is certainly early enough. Having a family history of high blood pressure in the family tree is a sure early sign of high blood pressure. The most that a person can do if there are a lot of family members who have a history of high blood pressure is to take preventive measures to reduce the risk of hypertension. Obesity in the family is also another factor that can contribute to high blood pressure in a person who is one the way to being obese or overweight.

Other Early Signs Of High Blood Pressure

Other not so definitive signs of high blood pressure in men and women are nausea or dizziness when exerting effort, hyperventilation and shortness of breath when exerting effort and palpitations. All these early signs of high blood pressure will no be so noticeable if the person does not often exert effort. Another early sign of high blood pressure is a feeling of heaviness in the nape when tense of anxious. This feeling does not often occur in people who may have hypertension but it can be a definitive sign of high blood pressure for those with a family history.

Apart from the heavy feeling in the nape, all other early signs of high blood pressure are quite random and may not be initially associated with high blood pressure when one is not looking for it. Even the heavy feeling in the nape can be attributed to other things which will not point to high blood pressure.

The best thing to do if an individual does have a family history of high blood pressure is to have a check up to see how high his blood pressure is. Relying on recognizing early signs of high blood pressure may be too vague and too late. The early signs of high blood pressure are virtually not physically noticeable compared to having the blood pressure taken.
